Clipping Your Guinea Pigs Nails
Guinea pigs nails are constantly growing so it is important they are trimmed regularly. We hope this step by step guide makes it easier for both you and your guinea pig when the time comes!
Step 1
Have a pair of nail clippers at the ready. We use the rounded pair designed for small animals (pictured), but some prefer to use a human pair. Go with what your more comfortable with.
Step 2
Find a way to hold your guinea pig, giving you access to their feet. We like to support the back end and let their back rest on our lap, as pictured.
Step 3
Identify the quick, (the blood flow to the nail). If you do accidently cut into it and draw blood, then don't panic. If you have it, dip the nail in 'Kwik-Stop' or dab it with a styptic pencil. These can both be purchased on Amazon. Alternitvely, a used tea bag or dipping the nail in vaseline should stop the bleeding.
Step 4
Trim the nails! If your guinea pig is black, and you can't see the quick, try shining a torch underneath the nail. For some pigs the quick will become visible.
